Arts can be therapeutic in lots of different ways. Arts Therapies however are specific disciplines which use a variety of therapeutic approaches to effect positive change.
Art Therapy (also known as Art Psychotherapy) offers an opportunity for thoughts and feelings to be explored and communicated through the use of art materials, within a therapeutic relationship and in a secure and confidential environment. The approach is client led, allowing you to work at your own pace.
Individual sessions last one hour and are usually weekly. A series can be undertaken for any length of time according to the needs and wishes of the client. Three initial sessions will allow the client to decide whether they would like to continue.
Group sessions are often two hours and can take a variety of different forms depending on requirements. Groups often follow a twelve week format and participants can be there for a variety of different reasons. Some groups can work around a relevant theme or focus.
