Free Shape Note singing class 31st August, York

Join us for a day of Shape-note singing!

Sacred Harp Singing Day led by Cath Tyler for The Arts Barge Project in York.

Sat Aug 31st at Tramways WMC. 10 – 4pm, Free, bring lunch to share.

For those keen to try Sacred Harp singing we’ll be putting on an all-day Sacred Harp Singing School on 31st August  as a follow up to Tim Eriksen’s gig in July.

The session will be held at Tramways in York link to map

As per tradition, there will be no fixed charge for this event – teachers will be paid from any donations offered by participants.

This session is not confined to singers and choirs – it’s literally open to anyone who wants to join – take a look at the Guardian Article below (by York’s own Alfred Hickling) and Shape, Rattle and Roll with us! Cath Tyler, formerly of Cordelias Dad (folk-noise), is co-founder (along with Tim Eriksen – pictured) of the world’s largest singing convention of venerable tradition of vocal four-part harmony Sacred Harp singing, in Northampton, Massachusetts.
