We are ecstatic, overjoyed, delighted and so relieved to be able to announce that planning permission has been granted for The Arts Barge to moor permanently in York City centre, on The Ouse by Skeldergate Bridge, alongside Tower Gardens! She’ll look like this…

The social, heritage and City development benefits that the Arts Barge will bring were recognised by the majority of Councillors on the Planning Committee and we are really excited now to be able to move into the next stage and start to bring these about!

This is going to demand all our focused time and energy – there’s a fair bit of fundraising and building to do! Due to this happy diversion –  we will not be bringing you our usual Riverside Festival this summer. Riverside will be back when Selby Tony is beautifully converted and in place beside our festival site!

We will however still at least be putting on our Great Yorkshire Swing at The Great Yorkshire Fringe in the summer and In the meantime we will be continuing with our regular smaller-scale activities which you can find out about on our facebook page – or join our facebook group for wider info on local arts events.

See here how the debate unfolded and resulted in a progressive and transformative decision for York!
