Finally, Selby Tony is coming to York! Next stop Planning!

970ba4c7-df65-4302-bc39-6a2e7e85e038After 3 years of waiting, negotiating, schmoozing and hoop-jumping we finally signed the lease and Selby Tony has a new, temporary home in the Foss Basin near Skeldergate.
We’ve got a 15 month lease which allows us time to get through planning permission and do as much of the build as we possibly can. Although it’s only temporary, this is a major victory in it’s own right, a very definite foot in the door! Now we just need to get behind the project and make sure we achieve the right planning decision to get her permanently moored.

We’re sure some of you must have been wondering if this day would ever come and we’re massively grateful for all of you who’ve stuck with us to this point.
Here’s where it starts to get really exciting!
Ironically the river is stopping us getting the barge here this week and there’s more rain expected so at the moment it’s a case of waiting until we get a break in the weather. The barge was moved to Goole today to wait until river levels drop before we can bring her to her new home in York. Unfortunately that won’t be until after Christmas due to the significant flooding in York. If you’re able to come down to welcome her in with a flag and a glass of bubbly it would be lovely to see you – keep your eyes on the Facebook page for updates.

In the new year we’ll be straight on with planning permission but…and you’d expect us to say this…we need all the help we can get to pay for it and we hope to raise donations to cover the cost to the tune of £7,000 in the next 81 days through the new campaign on our Local Giving site which you can find here if you get the impulse to contribute a quid or so!!! And as you can see at the top of the page, we’ve got some beautiful new artwork by Kai West to celebrate the next phase – one step closer to a floating arts venue for York!
