The Arts Barge Festival Tent pitched up for York’s 2013 River Festival in Tower Gardens July 19th – 21st. The weekend was a great success: see some fab pics here!
Regular visitors to Galtres will know our indoor/outdoor tent vibe – we bring sofas, armchairs and standard lamps for all the comforts of home (your granny will approve!) and picnic tables, real ales and great grub to keep you going from morning til night – all against the backdrop of fantastic music to suit all tastes, theatre, dance and loads of activities – and all with the unmistakable Arts Barge flavour.
Serving up a hearty helping of fringe arts events for all ages across the weekend – Friday 19th July 7pm til 10pm, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July 10am til 10pm.
A Really Short Fringe event on Friday night presented by Common Ground Theatre Co showcased snippets of local dramatic talent.
Saturday was retro music and dance day with some fantastic input from Pure Lindy, Black Velvet Dance and Rockin’ Deke Rivers all teamed up with our brand new Arts Barge Swing Band. The ukulele workshop was a popular happening on the Sunday, followed by The Grand Old Uke of York and the ever popular Gypsy Jazz session. Sunday evening saw the unlikely combination of Yorkshire vintage archive film, live soundtrack-making and ‘on the fringe’ comedy from Peter Marshall and the Lomos.
Galtres Festival crew served up local real ales and ciders (get your Galtres Parklands Festival tickets for more of that over the bank holiday weekend!) Fabulous al fresco dining was provided by Dyl’s Café and YUMI.
MOR Music, Snickleway Theatre Company, Arty Farty kids, Corner Gallery’s mural painting, Greenhart & Kind crafting, York Arts & Craft’s lantern making, Frank & Olive crochet, and Ian Cameron’s book-binding all added to the fun and the atmosphere and a great time was had by all in the sunshine on the riverside!
